Steps To Cleaning Your Water Inlet Valve
The reason you might be considering cleaning your water inlet valve is because its been clogged up with dirt and fabric from the constant use of your washing machine.
If you want to keep your washing machine in good condition and avoid problems from happening down the road, cleaning the water inlet screen using the method listed below will definitely help you prevent this, especially for common washing machines like LG and Samsung.
Step #1: Make Sure Your Washer Is Unplugged
Before we start any appliance project we always need to ensure that it is unplugged first. Locate the washing machines cord and unplug it from its socket.
Step #2: Turn Off Your Water Supply
After you’ve unplugged your washing machine, the next step you want to take is to turn off your water supply so water doesn’t leak while you are working.
Carefully move your washer forward so you can locate the water supply switch. If you shift your washer too much you can cause damage or leakage so be careful during this step.
Locate both switches for hot (red) and cold (blue) which you will need to turn to the right (clockwise) to prevent water from flowing through.
Once you’ve turn the switches off, you will need to grab a wrench to twist the nuts around the tubes to be taken off.
You might also want to keep a towel underneath unless you want water leaking on your floor!
Step #3: Removing The Water Inlet Screen
When you remove the tubes off the water supply switches, you will see that there is a screen inside the actual opening of the switch. You can use your fingers or a pair of pliers to remove the screen.
Step #4: Cleaning Your Water Inlet Screen
The best way to clean your water inlet screen is by filling up a cup of water with some vinegar.
Place the water inlet screen and move it around for about 5-10 minutes. What is going to happen is the vinegar (acidic solution) will naturally remove the dirt, dust and fabric from the screen which you will notice starts to float in your water/vinegar solution.
After 5-10 minutes we are ready to place it back into position.
Step #5: Placing Your Clean Water Inlet Screen
Place your water inlet screen back into position, and re-attach your hoses.
Turn the hot and cold water supply switches to the left (counter-clockwise) and plug your washing machine.
